We are seeking a technically skilled and proactive individual to support teaching, research, and commercial activities in Civil Engineering. Based within the School of Engineering, you will play a vital role in enabling hands-on learning and contributing to the successful delivery of academic and externally funded research projects.

This is a dynamic, hands-on position ideal for someone with a passion for engineering, precision, and collaborative problem-solving. Your expertise will help drive innovation and excellence across our educational and research programmes.

Salary will be based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week), primarily based at our Frankton satellite laboratory and the main Hamilton campus.

Ko wai koe? – Who are you?

You will be a technically skilled and safety-conscious professional with experience in civil or heavy engineering. A relevant high-level tertiary qualification is essential, and a trade qualification would be a valuable addition. You’ll bring strong manufacturing knowledge, effective troubleshooting skills, and a solid understanding of health and safety practices. Confidence in working with rigging, lifting, and scaffolding equipment is important. Your ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and support both teaching and research activities will make you a key member of the team.

You take pride in delivering high-quality technical support, enjoy problem-solving, and are passionate about student success. A positive, adaptable attitude and commitment to continuous learning are essential. Strong ICT skills, attention to detail, and a current NZ driver’s licence are required. Experience with CAD, lab work, or site supervision is advantageous.

School of Engineering (Te Kura Mata-Ao) offers accredited BE(Hons) degrees in various disciplines including Chemical, Civil, Electrical & Electronic, Environmental, Materials & Process, Mechatronic, and Mechanical Engineering, plus a graduate diploma in Engineering Management. Postgraduate options include taught and research Masters and PhDs. Key research areas include construction, infrastructure, structural engineering, energy, water, automation, robotics, sensing, electrical power systems, biomedical engineering, and materials.
