Job Description:
Job Summary
insightsoftware is seeking a Senior Product Manager to own the financial reporting domain within the Certent Equity Management (CEM) product organization. This is a high-ownership role that requires deep expertise in equity compensation financial reporting β specifically ASC 718 and IFRS 2 β combined with proven product management capability. Financial reporting is a mission-critical capability for CEM's customer base β public company controllers, accounting teams, and external auditors depend on the platform to produce accurate, audit-ready disclosures, expense calculations, and period-end reporting. This role is responsible for ensuring CEM's financial reporting capabilities remain accurate, compliant, competitive, and aligned with evolving accounting standards, multi-GAAP requirements, and enterprise customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Roadmap
- Own the product strategy and multi-quarter roadmap for CEM's financial reporting capabilities
- Define feature priorities based on accounting standards evolution, customer impact, revenue opportunity, enterprise deal requirements, and technical dependencies
- Monitor and interpret changes to ASC 718, IFRS 2, and related accounting guidance (ASC 740 deferred tax implications, SEC disclosure requirements, ESPP accounting treatments)
- Conduct competitive analysis of financial reporting capabilities across equity management platforms and identify differentiation opportunities
- Partner with the Senior Manager, Reporting and Director of Product to align the financial reporting roadmap
Domain Expertise & Accounting Standards Translation
- Serve as the internal subject matter authority on how ASC 718 and IFRS 2 requirements translate into CEM platform functionality
- Define and validate calculation logic, rounding rules, period-end processing sequences, and disclosure output formats in close collaboration with engineering
- Evaluate and define requirements for complex accounting scenarios β including award modifications, cancellations and replacements, business combinations, stock splits, and restatements β ensuring the platform handles edge cases that audit teams and controllers encounter in practice
Requirements & Documentation
- Write comprehensive PRDs with detailed functional specifications, calculation logic, accounting treatment definitions, user workflows, edge cases, and acceptance criteria for financial reporting features and enhancements
- Define data model requirements, period-end processing rules, and disclosure output specifications with the precision required for financial reporting in a regulated environment
- Document accounting treatment logic, assumption hierarchies, and calculation methodologies in formats that serve both engineering implementation and customer-facing transparency
- Establish and maintain a financial reporting domain knowledge base β including accounting standards interpretation documents, competitive capability comparisons, and feature-to-regulation mapping β that supports the broader product and go-to-market organization
Execution & Delivery
- Serve as the senior product point of contact for engineering on all financial reporting workstreams, providing real-time clarification on accounting logic, calculation intent, and disclosure formatting during development
- Accept or reject completed work against defined acceptance criteria, with particular rigor on calculation accuracy, rounding behavior, period boundary handling, and disclosure output fidelity
- Validate financial reporting outputs against expected results β including expense schedules, DTA calculations, EPS impact, disclosure roll-forwards, and journal entry summaries β ensuring audit-ready accuracy before release
- Monitor post-release quality for financial reporting features, coordinating rapid response when calculation or disclosure issues are identified in production, particularly during customer period-end close cycles
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Engineering leadership to manage capacity, technical debt, and architecture decisions specific to the financial reporting calculation engine, data model, and reporting infrastructure
- Work with Professional Services to understand customer financial reporting implementation challenges, period-end support patterns, and common configuration issues that can be addressed through product improvements
- Partner with Product Marketing on financial reporting positioning, feature launches, sales enablement materials, and competitive differentiation messaging
- Collaborate with Customer Success on period-end readiness communications, known issue advisories, and proactive outreach during peak reporting cycles
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage directly with key customers β including controllers, VP-level accounting stakeholders, and external audit teams β to gather strategic input on financial reporting capabilities, workflow pain points, and roadmap direction
- Serve as a senior financial reporting domain spokesperson for external partners, analyst relations, customer advisory groups, and industry events (NASPP, CEP Institute, GEO)
- Represent CEM's financial reporting capabilities credibly in conversations with customer audit firms, demonstrating platform alignment with current accounting standards and disclosure expectations
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor Product Owners on financial reporting domain concepts, helping the broader product team develop the accounting literacy needed to make informed decisions that affect reporting outputs
- Drive consistency in requirements quality, documentation standards, and acceptance criteria rigor for all work that touches financial reporting calculations or disclosures
- Serve as an escalation point for cross-domain issues where upstream product decisions (admin, ESPP, batch, broker) have downstream financial reporting implications, ensuring calculation integrity is protected
Required Qualifications
Experience
- 7+ years of progressive experience in product management, with at least 3 years focused on financial reporting, accounting, or regulatory compliance features within a SaaS platform
- 5+ years of direct experience with equity compensation financial reporting β either as a product manager defining reporting capabilities, as a practitioner performing ASC 718/IFRS 2 accounting, or in a consulting or advisory role focused on equity compensation accounting
- Deep working knowledge of ASC 718 expense recognition, fair value measurement, modification accounting, forfeiture methodology, graded vesting attribution, and disclosure requirements β sufficient to define calculation logic and validate platform output without reliance on external SMEs
- Proven track record of delivering complex financial reporting features from requirements through launch in an Agile environment
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate accounting standards into engineering-ready specifications and to represent product capabilities credibly to controllers, auditors, and CFO-office stakeholders
Technical & Domain Knowledge
- Deep understanding of equity compensation accounting across award types β stock options, RSUs, RSAs, performance awards, ESPP (Section 423 and non-qualified), and SARs β including fair value models, vesting conditions, and the full accounting lifecycle from grant through settlement or expiration
- Strong familiarity with financial reporting outputs β expense schedules, disclosure roll-forwards (options, restricted stock), aggregate intrinsic value calculations, DTA/DTL treatment, EPS impact, and journal entry generation
- Familiarity with SEC disclosure requirements for equity compensation and the ability to map regulatory expectations to platform output specifications
- Ability to engage credibly with engineering leadership on calculation engine architecture, data model design, period-end processing logic, and reporting infrastructure trade-offs
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA, CEP (Certified Equity Professional), or CFA certification is a strong plus
- MBA or Master's degree preferred
- Direct experience with the Certent Equity Management platform or comparable equity administration systems with financial reporting capabilities
- Experience supporting platform migrations where financial reporting parity, calculation continuity, and audit trail preservation were critical deliverables
- Experience in a high-growth, fast paced SaaS company
