Theย CAD Engineeringย Lead owns the digital backbone of how we design, develop, and deliver product. From the engineerโs first sketch in CAD through release into manufacturing and service, this roleย is responsible forย the platforms, data, and processes that make product development fast, reliable, and scalable. It is a deliberate evolution beyond traditional CAD administrationโless about keeping the lights on, and more about shaping how engineering works at scale.ย
This is a strategic, business-aligned positionย with an operational role. The person in this seat will be expected to think in terms of roadmaps, business cases, and measurable outcomes, whileย remainingย close enough to the technology to make confident architectural decisions. They will partner across Engineering, IT, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing to ensure our engineering systems are a competitive advantage rather than a constraint on growth.ย
What You'll Doย
Own the Engineering Systems Landscapeย
You will be accountable for the architecture, configuration, performance, and roadmap of our CAD and PDM/PLM platformsโmaking sure they are stable on their own and integrated cleanly into the broader ecosystem.ย
Own the architecture, configuration, and performance of CAD and PDM/PLM platformsย
Ensure seamless integration across CAD, PLM, ERP, and manufacturing systemsย
Define a system roadmap aligned to product development and supply chain strategyย
Establish Governance and Standardsย
Engineering at scale depends on consistency, and consistency depends on standards. You will define and enforce the standards that allow engineers across geographies to work as one team.ย
Establish and enforce CAD modeling standardsย
Define data structures, naming conventions, and BOM governanceย
Own release and change management processesย
Drive consistency across global engineering teamsย
Protect the Digital Threadย
Product dataย has toย flow accurately from design into manufacturingย and onย into serviceโwithout distortion, duplication, or loss of context. You will own thatย flowย end to end.ย
Ensure product data flows accurately from design โ manufacturing โ serviceย
Own product data quality, version control, and traceabilityย
Eliminateย duplication, rework, and downstream errorsย
Drive Engineering Productivityย
Engineers should spend their time engineering, not fighting tools. You will improve productivity through targeted automation and performanceย tuning, andย serve as the escalation point when complex issues block the team.ย
Deliver automation through scripts, templates, and design reuseย
Optimizeย performance for large assemblies and overall system speedย
Define and deliver a training strategy for engineers and designersย
Act as escalation point for complex technical and system issuesย
Lead Transformation and Continuous Improvementย
This role is expected to lead, not justย maintain. The bar is real, measurable productivity gainsโnot technology adoption for its own sake.ย
Lead PLM modernization and upgrade initiativesย
Drive cloud CAD / SaaS adoptionย
Advance the move to model-based engineering (MBE)ย
Evaluate emerging engineering technologies (simulation, digital twins, MBE)ย
Drive adoption of AI-accelerated CAD โ generative and topology-optimized design, AI-assisted part search and design reuse, automated simulation setup, and intelligent validation โ to compress design cycles, reduce duplicate parts, and scale engineeringย expertiseย
Identifyย and deliver measurable productivity gainsย
Manage Vendors and Partnersย
Our engineering systemsย run onย a network of external relationships, and you will own themโholding partners accountable to SLAs and continuously looking for ways to optimize cost without compromising capability.ย
Manage external partners for CAD/PLM support, upgrades, and implementationsย
Own strategic vendor relationships (Dassault, PTC, Siemens, Autodesk, etc.)ย
Ensure SLA performance and cost optimizationย
Partner Across the Businessย
Engineering systems do not exist in isolation. A central part of the job is translating business needs into system capabilitiesโand translating system constraints back into business-friendly language.ย
Partner with engineering leadership on design organization needsย
Work with IT on infrastructure, security, and identityย
Align with supply chain and manufacturing on downstream data needsย
Translate business needs into system capabilitiesย
What We're Looking Forย
Experienceย
We are looking for someone with deep experience in engineering systems who has been through significant implementations from end to end.ย
8โ12+ years in engineering systems, CAD administration, or PLM rolesย
Hands-on depth with one or more major platforms:ย
PTC Windchill / Creoย
Siemens Teamcenter / NXย
Dassault 3DEXPERIENCE / SolidWorks PDMย
Provenย track recordย leading system implementations or transformationsย
Technical Skillsย
You should be technically credible across the full stack of engineering dataโfrom CAD geometry through PLM lifecycle and into ERP integrationโand comfortable getting hands-on with automation and configuration.ย
Strong understanding of CAD data structures and large assembly managementย
Working knowledge of PDM/PLM workflows and lifecycle modelsย
Practical experience with BOM management and ERP integrationย
Automation skills (Python, VBA, APIs)ย
Experience with data governance and system configurationย
Familiarity with cloud/SaaS engineering platforms is a plusย
Leadership and Business Skillsย
Above all, thisย role demands the ability toย operateย at bothย strategic and hands-on levelsโable to build a multi-year roadmap one day and debug a complex configuration issue the next.ย
Strategic and hands-on:ย able to set direction and execute against itย
Strong stakeholder management across Engineering, IT, and Operationsย
Data-driven mindset with a focus on measurable outcomesย
Experience building roadmaps and business casesโand delivering against themย
