At Umbrage, we think great Product Managers come from all sorts of different professional backgrounds and have a diverse skill set to show for it. The ideal candidate for this position has 3+ years of experience in software product management and is someone who is passionate about building great software product experiences.

We're looking for a Product Manager who has experience, attitude, and aptitude for the following responsibilities:

Product Management

  • You are committed to understanding the lifecycle of a software product development project
  • You have some experience with workshop activities.Β 
  • You have the communication skills to collaborate with designers and developers and convey the business challenges of clients.Β 
  • You are curious and committed to learning Scrum/Agile and iterative software development practices.Β  Importantly, you have the communication skills to participate in team activities.
  • You have the ability to translate user interface designs and technical requirements into user stories.Β  Β 
  • You continuously strive to strengthen your understanding of product management best practices and you share your knowledge and insights to cross-train your peers.Β 
  • You communicate technical concepts clearly.

Project Management

  • You can explain a project statement of work.
  • You are timely and thorough in documenting your contributions to a project.Β Β 
  • You successfully participate in studio project teams.
  • You are curious and committed to understanding how to assess the status of a software project and how to move it forward.
  • You are comfortable onboarding new team members and working within a project team.
  • You are committed to understanding how to manage the scope, budget, requirements, timeline, project deliverables, and other nuances of project delivery.Β Β 
  • You are confident in providing project updates on a regular basis to our studio leadership team.
  • You carefully identify risks to project delivery as they arise and you communicate those risks to internal studio leadership.

Client Management

  • You speak thoughtfully and confidently with the client, simultaneously representing Umbrage and client’s best interests.
  • You cultivate a relationship with the client that establishes mutual trust and respect.
  • You foster effective communication with all team members.Β 
  • You identify new work opportunities by listening attentively to clients.

Team Facilitation

  • You support your team in terms of information and resources.
  • You seek out opportunities to contribute without prompting.
  • You seek support and guidance from others, in particular the studio leadership team.Β 
  • You are respectful and understanding of the demands on all team members.Β 
  • You are honest and respectful in your communications.Β 
  • You are engaged and contribute to a positive and productive work environment for all team members.Β 
  • You understand that no duty is too big or too small and you commit to getting the job done, right.Β Β 

Education and Experience

  • You have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent experience.
  • You exhibit a keen ability to learn new things as demonstrated by a competitive grade point average.
  • You successfully managed competing priorities such as working and/or volunteering while attending school.
  • You are proficient in Scrum/Agile.
  • You have basic skills in software project management tools, project delivery, kicking off/leading workshops, defining project deliverables and managing the project process, developing epics/stories/backlogs, understanding application development and managing people.
  • You have a desire to develop your knowledge.Β 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Position require the ability to routinely sit; stand; walk; talk and hear; use a keyboard; stoop; twist; reach; lift; bend; and travel to clients’ offices.
