We offer small business development programs, culinary skills training, and job placement, bolstered by individualized, wraparound supportive services. Our small business program, HBK Incubates, supports entrepreneurs as they transform their food businesses into sustainable income sources.
Culinary Fundamentals, our award-winning culinary training program, provides access to high-quality jobs for those starting their careers in the food industry. Our upskilling programs enable incumbent workers to gain further skills, leading to higher wages and career advancement. We work diligently alongside our network of over 200 food employer partners and more than 250 nonprofit and government partners to ensure our graduates are set up for success both at home and in their careers.

New New Yorkers is one of our Culinary Fundamentals programs that provides hands-on instruction on basic culinary and baking techniques, food safety, and other kitchen fundamentals, specially tailored to the needs of newly arrived, Spanish-speaking New Yorkers authorized to work. Bilingual instructors and support staff will provide instruction in English and Spanish.Β

THE OPPORTUNITYΒ 

Hot Bread Kitchen seeks a detail-oriented, results-driven Program Manager to join our Culinary Fundamentals program team. The primary focus of this position is to lead and oversee our New New Yorkers training program. This position may also be requested to provide support and coverage for other programs as needed. The ideal candidate demonstrates the ability to motivate a team to achieve quantitative outcomes, develop and implement processes for effective program management, and manage partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is essential, as most program participants are native Spanish speakers. Communicating effectively across languages is critical to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and culturally responsive learning environment. This position will oversee the New New Yorkers program's assessment, selection, and completion. This will entail collaborating closely with and coordinating across a team of culinary instructors, program coordinators, and case managers towards a shared goal and proactively troubleshooting challenges if and when they arise. The ideal candidate is a relationship builder and works collaboratively and creatively towards program outcomes. This position reports to the Director of Culinary Training and manages the Program Coordinator, the Lead Chef Instructor, and contracted instructors.Β

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Program Management

    • Provide day-to-day oversight and support of Hot Bread Kitchen’s New New Yorkers program

    • Convene and lead regular internal Hot Bread Kitchen meetings to ensure seamless program operations.

    • Plan and implement the program’s interview process, from oversight of scheduling interviews to leading team deliberationsΒ 

    • Coordinate culinary ESOL and Food Protection courses, including hiring and overseeing instructors and content.

    • Oversee coordination between the program instructors and case managers to ensure that program participants are positioned to meaningfully and successfully complete the program.

    • Lead hiring and onboarding of Culinary instructors.Β 

    • Supervise a team of Culinary instructors and support staff.

  • Data Management + Outcomes

    • Ensure that program data, including intakes, pulse surveys, and program statuses, is collected in Salesforce and stored in a timely manner.Β 

    • Develop effective systems for collecting and analyzing critical program data.

    • Work cross-functionally to ensure organizational KPIs are being met.

  • Program Administration

    • Plan yearly schedules for training programming in coordination with other program staff.

    • Serve as the day-to-day contact with site partners and troubleshoot issues.

    • Collaborate with other teams to plan and schedule mock interviews and other program activities.

    • Collaborate with the Brand and Development teams to plan stakeholder site visits and volunteer opportunities.

    • Oversee the administration of weekly member stipends.

    • Ensure the program has adequate resources.

    • Work closely with the Finance Department to track and manage the budget.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Driven by and have a belief in Hot Bread Kitchen’s values and missionΒ 

  • Spanish and English fluencyΒ 

  • At least three years of experience in relationship building and project managementΒ 

  • At least one year of food industry experience

  • Familiarity with workforce development

  • A working understanding of underserved, under-represented, hard-to-reach populations

  • General computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google platforms, and productivity software; experience with Salesforce is a plus

LOCATION AND HOURS

This position requires in-person presence 5 days a week at our Outpost locations throughout NYC and Chelsea Market. This role requires working from 12 pm to 8 pm, Monday to Friday.

COMPENSATION

This is a full-time position. The salary range is $72,000-$77,000, commensurate with experience. Hot Bread Kitchen's comprehensive benefits package includes health/vision/dental insurance (eligible from day one), 401K contributions, paid office closure daysΒ  (including holidays and staff appreciation days, and a one-week holiday break at the end of the year), flexible and generous vacation and sick time, paid parental leave, and a sabbatical program (after 5 years of service).
